I moved my fish to the 5 gallon tank because I've finally decided to get rid of the dirt that is the bottom of the 10 gallon tank. I just can't convince myself that it's healthy for the fish. It came out of my back yard, so hell knows what kind of toxins might be in it.

No more of the tetras have died, so there may have just been something wrong with that one, but IDK because I did also lower the pH a little. I do know that one of them ate that whole worm, and one of them got the shit beat out of it with the fish net by the store employee who retrieved them from the tank because it was hiding in a corner and apparently she thought the thing to do was to repeatedly smash it with the net until it moved elsewhere.

Behavior-wise, all of the fish still chase each other now and then, but for the most part they seem to get along now.

The other reason I wanted to get rid of the dirt is that it's just ugly. Here's the new black sand plus an island of amber gravel. I'm still working on the layout of the rest of the tank.

For the other side I spent a while tearing each individual branch from the oldest plants I have that have grown a lot, and planting each branch individually, to hopefully create ground that the little baby isopods can run around on without getting eaten by fish because the fish don't care to swim into plants. Of the maybe 50 isopods I put in the tank like two weeks ago, I only found the larger ones, so I think the guppy ate the little ones. I don't think this will help much as it is, just because it's a small volume that I don't think the things will have the sense to stay in, but hopefully all of those branches will continue to grow.

I also left room in the back for the paper towel filter I made a few weeks ago. It's apparently working as the water is clearing up and the paper towel is covered with black dust.
