Just for shits and giggles, I decided to create an online petition at www.whitehouse.gov for my solution to unemployment.
You have to fit the petition's text into only 800 characters. I guess it's a good thing no one has anything truly original to say, as I had a difficult enough time fitting this rather trivial idea into only 800 characters. I can't imagine what I would have done if, for example, the idea of paying people some multiple of their hourly rate when they work over a certain number of hours per week wasn't a well-known concept. Just the previous sentence alone, with it's minimalist definition of the concept, would have consumed 25% of my character budget.
Anyway, once you finish writing a petition, you get a preview page with a "publish" button. When you click the button, it says this:
Thank you for creating this petition!
This is just the beginning! Right now only you know this unique URL. Share it with others to get more signatures on this petition. Until your petition reaches 150 signatures, it will not be publicly viewable on the Open Petitions section of We the People, so be sure to share this URL:
